Neurosis- Official Bootleg 01, Lyon France. Neurosis released a live album Short Wave Warfare a few years before this release as a way of bootlegging the bootleggers who profit on selling very early songs at a low quality. It made sense for the band to get around to releasing a proper live album that demonstrates where the band is at musically. This performance took place on the 11/2/99 which would have been during the Times Of Grace touring schedule, a time when the Neurosis really started coming into their own as a band. Blending progressive, psychedelic, sludge, doom, stoner, and thrash sounds almost seamlessly provided an intoxicatingly unique sound unlike any other band out there. A sound far more complex and layered than the hardcore punk style they had originally and what was offered on Short Wave Warfare. This live set consists of 6 tracks spanning just under an hour in length. 3 from Times Of Grace, 1 from the Sovereign ep (yet to be released at the time), 1 from Through Silver In Blood, and 1 from Enemy Of The Sun. Live the band sound just as crushing as they do on the albums, and it is interesting to hear the slight improvisations they add to the live tracks. For a band to pull off a song like Away in a live setting would be a very difficult task. Neurosis not only do a flawless rendition of this track, but make it into the climax of the performance. For a live album this release is of the highest quality and I would recommend all fans of the band to get their hands on a copy.Read full review
