"When I was young, and they packed me off to school, and taught me how not to play the game;" there was a small independant grocery near my home. Without going into details, suffice it to say that the fact that they sold frozen pizza AND vinyl record albums contributed greatly to both my record collection and my neutritional needs. Thus was I entroduced to Jethro Tull.( I pause here to try and reassure Ian Anderson and the boys that over the years I have more than made up for my adolescent larceny with later purchases. As to the now defunct grocery store;... well, what can you do?) Jethro Tull has always been my favorite band. For some reason, their sound and lyrics have always just been "right". Perhaps my Celtish blood is excited by ancestral memories or something. They have always been what I consider "Classic Rock" with CLASS!! If I were stranded on the proverbial desert island, a copy of "Thick as a Brick" would meet my musical needs. As for Ebay, I find I can entertain myself for hours following my whims and "Seller's Other Items". It is truely amazing how one item can lead to others in completly different directions. Occaisonally I run across items I just have to have. Such is the case with the DVD in question. I ran across it and simply had to have it. The first thing I remember about watching it for the first time was how big a deal this concert actually was. I guess being American, I just assume that Woodstock was the be all and end all for concerts. However, I always reserve the right to be wrong. If you are reading this, you likely already know that Tull music is simply GREAT; and I really don't need to go on about that. But what really pleasantly surprized me was the QUALITY of the disc production. Let's face it; this was made a long time ago.... but the photography and sound quality were simply SUPERB!!! No grainy, shakey camera shots...Just the elegant class that we have come to expect from Tull. Just buy the thing! You won't be sorry.... The only thing I can say less than good about it was it left you wanting MORE!! Hope this has been useful. May God Bless Y'all.. Rueben Sandwich A.K.A. RuesanRead full review
Very cool footage of a very underated band. Also talks about the Isle of Wright festival. This was the U.K. version of "Woodstock" I guess. If your a fan of Jethro Tull or prog rock, you should enjoy this dvd.The price was right and I wanted thids for my collection.Back in 1987 they beat out Metallica for a grammy and Lars Ulrich was pissed. Why I asked myself.I thought back then Metallica was a cool thrash band,I didnt think they cared about Grammys, just playing music.Boy, was I wrong!Jethro Tull may not be sellig out arenas today but at least they have stayed true to who they are and didnt become sellouts!
It's great to see this vintage footage of Jethro Tull, along with some humorous observations by Ian Anderson in recalling the happenings at the Isle of Wight festival in 1970. I don't know how much of Tull's set was actually shown in the film;would have been nice to have seen more songs, but the filmmaker did a very good job, especially considering the technical limitations in filming that existed nearly 40 years ago. A good item for all Tull fans to have.
Great DVD and you can't beat the price!!
