This album is full of surprises. I bought it having never heard of the Flatlanders until I heard one song on a college radio station. The song, a silly ditty called "Pay the Alligator", was just fun to listen to, and left me wanting to hear more. There are plenty of exciting instrumentals, which are joined by the interesting vocals of Jimmy Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock. The Flatlanders are a bluesy, bluegrassy, folksy, country mix of music covering topics from lost love (of course!) in "Waving My Heart Good-bye", and found love (what else?) in "Right Where I Belong", with life questions asked in the folksy/bluesy, "Yesterday Was Judgement Day" and the melancholy "The South Wind of Summer". I recommend this album to anyone wanting more in thier music collections than the formulaic music heard on commercial radio. You won't be disappointed.Read full review
