Notes
Over three years in the making, 'Numerology' begins and ends with the sound of a solitary turntable; what lies between is a dizzying array of technical pyrotechnics, memorable melodic passages, deft genre-crossing, hopscotching time changes & brilliant musicality. Drummer Thomas Ford & guest bassist Chris Kringel (Cynic, Portal), are in perfect sync throughout, navigating their way through a variety of styles with cohesive precision. PRIMROSE PATH features the duo's groovability with a backbeat funk passage followed by a series of death-defying syncopated lines, while WORK IN PROGRESS sees them explore the world of Latin music & CATLORD contains some muscular metal-tinged rhythm work. The solid foundation laid by Ford and Kringel serves as a springboard for keyboardist Jeffrey Schuelke and guitarist Michael Butzen to leap from. Schuelke's versatility is fully on display, shifting from lilting piano work on DAWN & PRIMROSE PATH to the manic frenzy of his solo work on FAUNUS with ease. Butzen shows his technical aptitude with a plethora of spirited flurries on the cuts MISSING TIME & CATLORD, while unleashing his lyrical side on FAUNUS' moving outro solo. The Schuelke- Butzen duo also play tag-team on several occasions, weaving their way through intricate harmony passages on the tracks NEAP TIDE, IO & WORK IN PROGRESS. Also featured are Elizabeth Grimm (strings) and Chad Burkholz (bass- MISSING TIME). A combination of epic songwriting, technical precision and emotive performances, 'Numerology' is a must for any fan of Progressive Music!!! 'When it comes to instrumental music, I am always fond of bands that create it with passion! And this particular trio from Wisconsin does it with style! Even though the compositions are lengthy, the songwriting is inspirational. They are constantly in my playlist and deserve a place in yours too! It is so rare for an instrumental band to compose such wonderful pieces of music without a single dull moment! If Progressive Rock/Fusion instrumental music meets your taste, then Fibonacci Sequence has it all. If you prefer music with vocals, give them a try and you will catch yourself changing your beliefs quite soon!' ~Dimitris Starakis Magic Starlightzine.
