I disagree with other reviewers who believe that this second CD from October Project was an improvement on the 1993 self-titled effort. The consistent high quality of the first CD is lacking here, although the overall work is far too great to dismiss it with merely a "good" rating. Ten years separated the original October Project CD from Mary Fahl's The Other Side of Time. On youtube, you can find the video for Going Home from the movie Gods and Generals. I think that the purity of Mary Fahl's voice that is so evident on the first CD is most closely retained in her solo CD. Regardless, Falling Farther In is well worth owning. After listening to October Project, one has to wonder why they did not achieve the level of fame attained by groups such as the Cranberries, who could not, song after song, remotely compete with October Project. Like the Cranberries, however, the whole seems better than the sum of the excellent individual parts.Read full review
Any time one gets to listen to Mary Fahl sing it is special. She is one of this generation's great singers and is in good form here. This is middle of the road rock music - not too hard edged and not too soft - compare to Fleetwood Mac. The songwriting isn't anything special but the songs are all pleasant to listen to. My favorites are One Dream and Deep As You Go but I think you could ask 10 different people and get 10 different answers. If you like middle of the road rock music, you need to listen to this band - Mary makes them special. Note that I only rate about 1 in 500 albums with a 5 star rating - 4 stars from me is really good.

by far the most inventive musically gifted band since the beatles- tho i prefer the first album- there are tracks on the 2nd that surpass any on the first- you would not be disappointed in either- if you enjoy bands that sing intelligent meaningful soulful lyrics- that can harmonize- that can play their instruments and not rely on anything but their own innate talent- and mary fahl sings along with marina belinca and they sound like an entire choir of angels-i was heartbroken when they split up- hopefully they will take a cue from the eagles and fleetwood mac- and decide to reunite- the world would be the better for it- we can hope- wwith the beatles there is no more hope- do you think the surviving ones regret it- i think they do-
This, the second and final effort by O.P., has at least two great songs and a bevy of other really good ones, IF you like their sound and emotionalism. There are a few tunes that fall flat for me, feeling too contrived and maudlin, but only a few. Mary Fahl's voice has to be heard to be believed, surely standing as one of the most unique and beautiful pop voices of all time. The songs display her talents perfectly as well as those of the group. In particular, the music is propelled along by a "found" rhythm section that squeezes the utmost energy out of dangerously mellow tunes, a great feat of musicianship that adds even more uniqueness to the band's sound. Writer Emil Adler and the group's chord progressions and performances offer more than standard pop fare, pushing the material farther in to more complexity of emotion than is common nowadays. Gotta love the opening piece in 5/4 time, too. Bookended with their previous CD, these two stand apart as islands of sincere melodic rock that are hard to match.Read full review
October Project was musically darkly hued, but lushly melodic. Mary Fahl's voice is a wonderment (she works solo these days and is more wonderful than ever). Not quite up to the debut but still very highly recommended.
