Oingo Boingo meets Progressive Rock
Oddly, this CD was playing as I opened the e-mail asking for a review. If you are a fan of the O-B you know from such songs as "Wierd Science", "Dead Man's Party", and "Private Life", be prepared for something different. This disc has little of the dark humor and dance-oriented material of their earlier offerings. Instead, expect longer, more complicated song forms, frequently with serious subjects such as coming-of-age, religion, hypocricy, and religous hypocricy. Danny Elfman had done several movie soundtracks by this point and it shows in his arranging and orchestration. Some songs, such as "Pedestrian Wolves" (9:20) have much more length than substance. On the other hand, there are heartfelt ballads such as "Useless" and a fun cover of the Beatles "I Am The Walrus" Other titles you may recognize from O-B greatest hit collections and live shows include "Insanity" and "Mary. If you're a fan of Elfman's soundtrack work, or of progressive rock in general, you'll likely enjoy this CD. If you're a fan of O-B's older work, be prepared for a different sound entirely. It is not a 100% top-notch offering, and you'll miss the horn line and marimba sounds of the 80's sound, but it's still worth a listen.Read full review

War Again
Boingo contains two of Oingo Boingo's greatest songs "Insanity" and "War Again". For those two songs alone this album is worth the price. Danny Elfman puts aside the satire and humor that was front and center in his earlier work and instead blatantly slaps religious hypocrites and neo-cons across the face. Most of these songs are over 5 minutes long so if you have a short attention span you might want to look for something else. The rest of you, who like to think, need to buy this now! 5 Huge Stars.
