I have always loved the Moody Blues and this CD completes my collection (I have the the LPs and now all the Cds) The music is really good and I had forgotten about some of the great songs until I played the CD. An enjoyment to listen too (the one downside, if there can be a downside to the Moddy Blues) is the CD seems rather short in time, unless I;m just used to the extended CDs that are put out now!
I had this CD and then lost it in one of the three moves I made in the last 18 months. The CD just disappeared. So, I bought the CD again in May of 2007. I live with my son, his wife, and three kids, and one day in June my oldest grandson came into my room and said, "I need Rock and Roll Over You, Jama." "You do?" I laughed. "You need it?" He shook his head vigorously, so I put that song on the repeat cycle and we listened and danced to that song for the next 20 minutes. Well, his birthday was on July 9th, so because I was broke just then, I gave Dallin my copy of this CD, The Moody Blues, The Other Side Of Life. I have his face, as he opened the present, recorded forever, both on film and in my heart. He had gotten some incredible toys, but he was more excited about having his own Moodies CD than he was about any of his other things. I thought I would be happy just borrowing the CD when I wanted to hear it, but it had become my favorite Moodies album in a very short time. So when I got a little extra money again, I rebought the album for myself. I rarely put the CD away. It's in the machine right this minute. I love it.Read full review
As one of the few bands who continue to thrive after more than 20 years, there's a reason for it: great music. Never content to simply sit and rehash older hits, they continue to grow and expand their abilities. This album is no exception. The Other Side of Life is one of the few albums that I own every technological iteration of and for good purpose. Because it's worth it. Find a sample and listen for yourself and you'll see.
I'm sorry to say that I am not nearly as impressed with this album as other reviewers here. I have been a die-hard Moody Blues fan for roughly 40 years, so when compared to their 60's and 70's releases, the bulk of this recording can only be described as uninspired and mediocre. Granted, the title track is a great song...in fact in 1986 I once heard a radio DJ describe 'The Other Side of Life' as "the best song on the radio today", an assessment that I did agree with. This along with 'Your Wildest Dreams' are outstanding in this collection. However, the remaining tracks on this album simply do not even come close to the inspired music that began with 'Days of Future Passed' and continued up through 'Seventh Sojourn'. I would recommend downloading the 2 hits and shelving the rest.
