It's the nature of the beast that can't be escaped. Slight background noise is heard at the beginning and between tracks, but during the music, it's not noticeable. This is a novelty and good one at that. If you're into picture discs, this is of the highest quality. Remember, the visual of playing a record is half the experience of the music. This set is quite enjoyable.

The ELO Out of the Blue picture is a beautiful example of a picture disc. The color, ... The ELO Out of the Blue picture is a beautiful example of a picture disc. The color, graphics, and execution are stunning. Just keep in mind that the sound will never compare to a regular vinyl version. Picture discs inherently begin with a base of surface noise, and this one is no exception -- but that is to be expected. The only unexpected downside is the clear sleeve. It doesn't ship well (it cracks and splits), and it does begin to collapse over time. Despite being packed well. mine arrived with the records busting out of the clear sleeve. I suspect this is reasonably common. That aside, it's still a beauty.
