I can't say I liked this album very much when it came out. I lived in Burlington, VT. at the time, and was a big fan of the group. I just don't feel it's as good as the previous 3 albums were. Tunes like Lengthwise, seem to just be filling some of the extra time on the recording. Did they really need to reprise that song (once was enough)? I've seen many of these songs performed live, and find that some of the songs do work well in a live setting. Some of the songs I really liked were Rift, It's Ice, Mound, Fast Enough For You, and Weigh. If your new to the band I would recommend picking up a different album, preferably one of the live recordings.
Phish plays very multifarious music styles blended together on their albums. This one is not of my favorite, but it`s ok. Has a few fantastic moments, and some boring also. But this record is still over average. If you are a beginner listener, better start from Junta - their best album.
I had always avoided Phish because every review I read compared them to The Grateful Dead. Well, one day I was looking through a box of CDs at a thrift store and decided to give this one a shot. I'm glad I did! Sure, the jam band label fits but this album is quirky with some strange lyrics and even some slide guitar thrown in. How could I not like it? 5 Stars.
awesome cd great price, Rift is awesome one phishs best stuido albums. Phish is great I love phish they are the best and I am writing this review because I can. This is stupid having to put so many charaters in a review that can be summed up in a couple words
Lengthwise, this is the bands best effort. But why weigh on a sunny day????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
