It seems a little unfair to be reviewing this when Gordon Giltrap has enjoyed a recording career spanning over four decades and I 'discovered' his music just over four weeks or so ago, but what we have here are two of his first albums together on one CD showcasing his early promise as a guitarist of some distinction. For me, it is the instrumental tracks such as 'Lucifer's Cage', 'Confusion' and the ridiculously catchy 'Ive's Horizon' that made me a fan (he seems to do more with one guitar than some folk manage with a band) but, with that said, many of the tracks on which he sings will probably stick in your head for a good day or two after each listen and you'll probably find yourself humming or singing them too. Like I say, I only got into him a month or so ago and these are songs from the very beginning of his long career. A quick bit of research revealed he is still playing regularly as well as recording new material and I look forward to not only enjoying seeing him play live, but also listening to the large back catalogue of his work . - Bircfire -Read full review
Gordon Giltrap is a quite magnificient guitarist and is certainly not to be missed live in concert. Try the later albums where he shows what a great guitar player he is. This CD features his first two records, when he fancied himself a bit of a singer - the strengths are the guitar pieces - the weaknesses when Gordon sings along with his own quirky and quite naive lyrics.
