After recording many albums for Bearsville Records, Todd Rundgren and his band Utopia released a few albums on independent labels, including Oblivion and POV for Passport Records. Utopia already had an established cult following, but these albums lagged behind in sales. Conflict within the band also was taking its toll, and these were to be the last full albums Utopia would produce. This collection, now out-of-print, also includes the two tracks recorded for the retrospective Trivia album - the bouncy 'Fix Your Gaze' and the swan-song 'Monument', the latter a tribute to the band and the fans. While sales may have been slow, these albums packed quite a punch. Oblivion was full of piss-'n'-vinegar, while POV had a little more flavor but decidedly less angst to throw around. Todd Rundgren continued to front the band, though there was a little more credit given to the band, including production credit given to drummer John "Willie" Wilcox on POV. Lacking the commercial appeal of earlier Utopia albums like the urban-apocalyptic Oops! Wrong Planet or the AOR-appealing Adventures In Utopia, the band had pretty much run its course, and Todd was ready to continue his solo work. Rhino Records has recently re-released many of Todd Rundgren's catalog, and it seems like Oblivion, POV And Some Trivia is a no-brainer for a future re-issue. Let's hope Rhino can see the potential.Read full review
