Frank Zappa's talents as a writer, musician and humorist are on full display in this album. Anybody over the age of 40 will certainly be able to relate to "Cheepnis", although even my 14 yr old got into it once I explained to him that movie special effects weren't all that great prior to CGI. "Dummy Up" is a good musical skit, and the closeness of the Mothers of Invention is evident in the easy back and forth of the dialogue and the riffs. I had almost forgotten how great this record was until I found it in my in-flight selection on a Virgin America flight last month. I bought two copies of this CD- one for me, one for my older brother (who turned me on to the vinyl version way back in 1977). It's a birthday gift, and I can't wait to see his face when he opens up the box. It is certain to bring back good memories for him, as it did for me.Read full review
I would consider it a great beginner Zappa CD. If you like blues, jazz, rock, and comedy from the early 70's era (and beyond as I consider this way ahead of it's time) you won't be disappointed. Just killer guitar by Frank, killer drums, keyboard, bass, and vocals by the whole band. Sometimes it's unbelievable this is live because it is so tight and the audio is so good, but they were known for that. I saw Zappa and the mothers at the Fox Theater in Atlanta in about 1980. Stunningly tight and stunning audio. We lost him way too soon. Stop reading and buy now!!!!

If you`re not a Zappa fan this is the one that could make you one. This collection of live music may be the very best live album I have ever heard. It starts with the zany `Pygmy Twylyte`, includes the satiric `Cheepnis`, a takeoff on old `B` monster movies, and `Dummy Up`, a must hear for us baby-boomers. Musically, as with all of FZ`s efforts, it`s phenomenal. If you can lay your hands on this one, by all means, you won`t be disappointed.
what can you say about frank?the man has made fun of the government for years.and every thing was sexily and to the point.i real like it because part of the concert recorded in edinboro college in pa.one song that stands out is penguin in bondage and the be-bop tango.frank was before his time and people didnt know how to read him.the disc is great.and i heard this on vinyl first not cd.get this disc and set back and laugh.a must for your collection.
