There was a time when I was listening to some old 8-track tapes. My parents bought some and my sisters (at least, one of them) bought a few. They were still playable as if being rediscovered. I could listen to the classical ones (like Tchaikovsky's 4th symphony by Bernstein) and some ABBA and a few others. I was considering to do some recording onto 8-track tape (which wouldn't matter since it didn't catch on). Then my father got a bunch of them from a flea market. One particular cartridge contained one whole piece called "Rubycon." I thought I give it a listen. I heard strange music with synthesizers, as well as accoustic instruments and strange sounds. It was mesmerizing! At that point, I knew I discovered some kind of electronic music group. Eventually, I bought a few other Tangerine Dream albums on better sounding vinyl records (including "Rubycon") at less than $5 each. I also recorded them onto cassette tape so I would not have to worry about wearing out the vinyl records. Then I decided to sell the records at a flea market. I wouldn't want to be stuck with them when they're worn out. Maybe someday I could get them on CD, I thought. Then came a time when I saw in a store some Virgin recordings of Tangerine Dream released on CDs. I was hesitant to get any since I don't know if I really wanted them. It's a good thing I did hesitate because cheaper releases would come later on. So I got almost all Virgin CDs at mid-price (left out "Cyclone"). A few of them would be definitive editions, the best sounding ones I could get. Later, I would replace the rest so I have almost all of the definitive edition Virgin CDs. I could not get them in stores but on eBay (including "Rubycon"). Now I could, once again, enjoy the mesmerizing music on the best souding format available for consumers. I see that "Rubycon" is also available on SACD, but it's very costly. Maybe when the price gets low enough, I might get that. One of their best from the '70s!Read full review
A single sequencer enters the fray above field of white noise, soon to be joined by others in a triumphant driving theme. I love this album, it almost outstrips Phaedra as my favourite studio Tangs album. Just the two tracks of beautiful ambient textures taking you into a soundworld of sublime grooviness.... If you like early TD then you'll have this already, if not - give it a try as one of their best recordings.
VERY GOOD MUSIC FOR YOGA. REALLY RELAXING. i WOULD DEF RECOMEND THIS TOO ANY ONE WHO LIKES MYSTICAL MUSIC
