Santana as a band has consistently been changing and evolving their sound over the years picking up new influences as well as letting some of the old ones go. In fact the only common thread over albums by Santana from inception to now are: 1. The melodious and sometime frantic highly identifiable guitar work by Carlos. 2. The distinctive Latino flavor to the music of the band. Apart from the above two points the band has been constantly evolving, mainly due to the influence of numerous band members and contributors over time. "Shango" as an album was (until "Supernatural") the most pop-ish Santana release of them all, with very melodious sing along tunes and truly high quality music craftsmanship. It also has an Afro touch to it, specially on the title track and 'Oxun'. If you dig Carlos and what he can do with a guitar then your bound to also like this.Read full review
