Taste worth acquiring
Technical quality of this particular product is excellent. As for Captain Beefheart - if you like his work you will like this recording. If you don't like him, you won't like it. If you are completely unfamiliar - be careful. Beefheart is an acquired taste worth acquiring, but he is not for the timid or those who live inside the box.

I was fortunate enough to see Captain Beefheart perform live just after this was released, and I must say it was one the most enjoyable shows I've ever seen. The Shiny Beast album conveys the feeling of this band very well and presents the material with the alacrity and spontaneity of his live performance. One of his very best and most listenable albums.

Building up to the next one
In a way this is Captain Beefhearts comeback album. It is truly great but is topped by the follow up, Doc At The Radar Station. I love this man.
