This is a very good Rush CD. From the very first note of the song "Far Cry", you know you are listening to Rush. The songs are very good. There are a lot of time changes that Rush fans have come to know. Alex is back to playing guitar solos on this CD. There is even an acoustic guitar solo piece on this one. If you like the progressive music that you are used to hearing from the band Rush, then you will like this. I picked up this CD because I am a Rush fan. I have just about everything that Rush has put out. I am glad that I have this to add to my Rush collection. If you like Rush, you should like this one.
When I first heard that RUSH was releasing another album I sort of gave it a half a thought. I haven't really been into RUSH since Moving Pictures due to some of the mid-to late 80's stuff really turning me off. When I heard that they where touring to support the album, I told my wife that I have to see them this time (after five attempts I still hadn't made it into the arena for the show!). So I bought tickets and patiently waited for the day of the show. I decided about two weeks before the show to buy Snakes and Arrows.....WHAT THE HELL DID I WAIT FOR!?!?!?!?!?! On the first listen to the CD I will admit I didn't care for it (I also recall that I thought that Permanent Waves was just "OK", what a dummy I am!). After a few times running through the CD I can say that this is one of those rare albums that I can listen to beginning to end without a bad or filler song on the album. After 30+ years together these guys still ROCK!! My personal favorites are: Armor and Sword, Malignant Narcissism, Bravest Face and Spindrift. RUSH continues to show why they are still one of the greatest bands of all time.Read full review
Great C/D ... Rush at there very best .. I've been a long time Rush fan and was a little concerned whey they released Vapor Trails .. This is a very strong C/D both vocals and musically .. Geddy, Neil, and Alex really set a new standerd for themselves and I hope they will follow this with more great music .. This C/D sent them on a 2 year tour and we seen them both times they were in town and as said Rush at there very best ..
Arguably the best Rush album since Power Windows (1986). The first listen caught my attention, but the second time through really pulled me in. The more I let the album 'breathe' the more I appreciate it's pure power. The lyrics are dark and at times esoteric, but the negativity enhances the the emotion of the music. There are three instrumental songs, the best of which is "The Main Monkey Business", which may be their best instrumental song ever...even better than YYZ. A true return to form for the Canadian Trio, an absolute classic.
I have been listening to Rush for about thirty years, and really appreciate what only three guys can do. This CD is no different. A new fresh attack, but the same great sounds from Geddy's voice and bass lines to Niel's peerless drumwork.
