Camel's SNOW GOOSE compact disk was rather disappointing. The audio was fine, but the music simply wasn't as memorable as I had anticipated. It doesn't wear so well over time, apparently. Still, it's worth hearing once.

The 2002 (barcode: 042288293026) CD release of Camel's The Snow Goose: Excellent CD if you like early-1970's moody instrumental keyboard/synthesizer-based progressive music; not as good as either Mirage or Moonmadness, sort of a bridge between the two. The 1983 (barcode: 042280008024) CD is a bit truer to the 1975 Decca or Janus vinyl, but the difference is insignificant in my view; the 2002 release is just a wee bit brighter and there is some brick-wall compression evident in the loudest segments (no obvious compression on the 1983 release). Also, with the 2002 release, you get several single versions and live recordings.

Camel was one of those bands that really made progressive rock (NOT "prog rock"!) great, without being pretentious. They were in the same class as the Canterbury groups (Caravan, Matching Mole, Soft Machine, et al).

A gorgeous instrumental progressive rock album filled with lushness.

finding some music that has been remastered or brought to cd format is great. This album has a theme and in so , carries out a variety of fusions, which was common for many bands like this. The guitaring and arrangements make it a classic for me. If you purchase this album from the camel line, you might want MIRAGE and MOONMADNESS also. Camel falls along the lines of PFM, Yes, Genesis,etc... Enjoy!
