I first checked into Opeth some years ago and frankly was turned off by the death growls. (I just don't like 'em.) Then recently a friend introduced me to newer Opeth, and happily, there are no death growls on Sorceress, save one of the live extras on the Digipak bonus CD. I love this album, and will be buying more Opeth for sure. After a dozen listens it continues to grow on me as I'm exploring its tremendous depth. It's got some of the most hauntingly beautiful melodies I've ever heard (the end of Seventh Sojourn - wow), the guitar work is incredible, the lyrics resonate with me, and the sheer variety of music is amazing. It's kind of like death metal meets Rush meets Metallica meets Dream Theater - and it's all good! These are songs I'm happy to have stuck in my head - I can't wait to hear more.Read full review

Very good songs, well written. It's Opeth what did you expect?

This is an alright album by Opeth. It's better than Heritage and Pale Communion, but not as good as their older stuff. I think it's safe to say that nothing they release in the future will be better than their older albums.
