Canadian folk-rocker Bruce Cockburn is an artist whose main body of work remains under the radar for most radio stations, except for his minor hits like 'Wondering Where The Lions Are' and 'If I Had A Rocket Launcher'. But Bruce has had a lot to sing about over the three-plus decades he's been performing and recording, a lot of it to do with the suffering and injustice he's seen as he travels the globe. With the intensity of Bruce's lyrics and passion with which he sings them, it's easy to forget that he's so talented on guitar as well. So on many of his albums, he recorded instrumentals that leave the listener with a touch of joy, contrasting the often heavy-weighted lyrics on other tracks. With 'Speechless', Bruce has collected or re-recorded his best instrumental guitar work, and given us new tracks, too. When I first discovered Bruce Cockburn's music, the instrumental 'Water Into Wine' (which is included on this collection) left me wanting more. Now you can enjoy some beautiful guitar work from a folk master, presented in a beautiful collection. If you enjoy the works of Phil Keaggy, Leo Kottke, The California Guitar Trio and/or Michael Hedges, I believe you will enjoy this album very much.Read full review
