Was reading a Car Magazine, and it mentioned the Song "Spirit of America". Been a Craig Breedlove FAN since I was a Boy- NEVER knew The Beach Boys wrote a song about His "assault" on the Land Speed Record WAY back in 1963, so I HAD to find it! Tracked it down, and bought this CD. Was "used", Cover was "GOD AWFUL" artwork- AND it was "water damaged", BUT I was gonna do My OWN Cover/Artwork ANYWAY with "Spirit of America" Photos/Logos. Although it was "pre-owned" it plays GREAT !

In 1974, Capitol released the classic double-album of "Endless Summer", containing 20 all-time great Beach Boys songs. A year later, in 1975, they issued the follow-up album, "Spirit Of America", featuring 23 recordings. These 23 songs truly represent the fines Beach Boys music ever assembled together in one set. 'Dance, Dance, Dance' is a spirited rocker and a great way to open this album; 'Breakaway' is from 1969 and makes its official album debut here; 'A Young Man Is Gone' showcases fine acapella harmonies about James Dean; '409' was an early hit single about a prized automobile; 'The Little Girl I Once Knew' has all of the Beach Boys trademarks; the title track 'Spirit Of America' is a fine ballad; the pace picks up again with 'Little Honda'; 'Hushabye' is a fine remake of an early rock hit; the group sings the praises of the 50th state with 'Hawaii'; the song 'Drive-In' could also serve as a novelty tune; 'Good To My Baby' is a stellar hit; 'Tell Me Why' is the band's lively cover of a Beatles song; 'Do You Remember?' mentions several rock and roll pioneers by name; Dennis Wilson shines as lead vocalist with 'This Car Of Mine'; 'Please Let Me Wonder' is another charming ballad; another classic remake is found with Frankie Lymon's 'Why Do Fools Fall In Love'; 'Custom Machine' represents yet another standard car song; the band's legendary vrsion of 'Barbara Ann' reached number two on Billbaord's Pop Single charts in 1966; 'Salt Lake City' tells about Utah's state capital; 'Don't Back Down' tells about hitting that perfect wave; 'When I Grow Up (To Be A Man)' extols the virtues of growing up; another fine remake is heard with 'Do You Wanna Dance?'; the album concludes with harmonies that resemble the Four Freshman wiith 'Graduation Day'. Altogether, this collection represents why the appeal of the Beach Boys has lasted for so long, and why they continue to be America's Band.Read full review
