I first heard this band when I lived in Hawaii in '93."Cannonball"was a huge song then.I really like that song ,so I bought The Breeders"Last Splash" CD because of it. I will say the record is a pleasant surprise. No song on it is bad, though some seem more like short jams, verses full songs.(they are good short jams though!)"New Year","Flipside","S.O.S"are good examples of this. The real hidden jems are "No Aloha","Divine Hammer",and "Saints"."No Aloha" has this beautiful surypy steel guitar and poet house lyrics, then kicks into good punk style rocking."Divine Hammer"is a smooth pop song with some really insightful lyrics."Saints"is just plainly a cool song, with those unique Kelley Deal phrasing on vocals;almost a snear. "Drivin'On"could be played in a country bar and fit.It is the anomaly, but a good one. "Cannonball"is the stand out song.If you know who The Breeders are,you know this song.It rocks heavy with a kickin'in-your-face-bass,and percussive rhythm guitars.(Don't forget the great drum work of Jim McPherson!) I feel like this band has been forgotten about, which is a great shame. You can usually find "Last Spalsh"cheap on Ebay.It is well worth a listen!Read full review
Some songs very good, some blah. Not a very strong statement album that I expected.
