I had several "Return to Forever" CD's and Clarke was the Bass player in that group so I decided to purchase this CD and see if this would be as fantastic. This music that Stanley Clarke has put together is on a par with the "Return to Forever" material, plus I do not think that I have ever heard such a talented Bass player as Mr. Clarke. The price was right for me so I took the chance on this CD and loved it.
A great debut solo album, along with some great musicians, Stanley Clarke shows a depth of range and abilities that will often occur with musicians who have already sold albums within a band, but want to stretch outside the bounds of the band. RTF fans will hear some familiar themes done in different style. From funkrock to neoclassical, this album runs the gamut.
I can't break down "Life Suite" into its parts.

This is his first solo album and contains very fresh and innovative music. The combinations of, Jazz, Fusion, and Classic are syncopative and captivating. As you will soon see, early Stanley Clarke music is timeless. Whenever you listen to it, you will discover endless undulations of spiraling riffs with no end. A great peace of work.
