Brian Transeau is from Los Angeles, California. As a child, he acquired the skills to become a professional musician, and that’s what he is today. Using basic sources and powerful knowledge in the studio, BT introduces sounds that are way ahead of his and our time. It has been claimed that he has an IQ of 170+. BT is a big fan of the movie Blade Runner starring Harrison Ford. Something that you may notice is that the beginning of the track "Satellite" is actually an audio clip from the film. This album is perhaps best known for "Never Gonna Come Back Down" which features vocals from Soul Coughing's front man Mike Doughty. "Movement in Still Life" carries a sampled loop from Grand Master Flashes' "The Message." I have had the pleasure of meeting him before going on stage during an event of this that took place at a local night club in San Francisco. He signed the US version of MISL for me and shook my hand. If you have not heard the alternate UK version, I encourage you to give both a listen, and decide for yourself which is more impressive. This album is certainly not a bad addition to your collection.Read full review
Although this was not the hard-to-find two disc limited edition (which I had at one point and lost at another), many of the tracks are present. His work on this album is defined as having top production value, quality sounds that were obviously crafted with care, and the first use of some layering, echo, and distortion effects that I was aware of when this first came out. Some of these tracks are of the shorter variety, cut for album length, but I still look forward to hearing my favorites: "Running Down the Way Up" and "Dreaming". Recommended for fans of lush electronic music in a diverse styling with a mainstream feel, vocal accompaniments and uptempo beats.
I like the style. A stranger gave me his copy of this CD, and I had worn it out!! Bought this one as a replacement! Favorite track is DREAMING...I could have a whole CD on just the music from this track!Remixes of this track don't do it justice (IMHO). Next fave is RUNNING DOWN THE WAY UP. Last track on the CD is a 70's style rhyme about life of the rapper, but doesn't spoil the rhythm of the album. If you like a good mix of upbeat and ballads, in a electronica/club/dance style, then you will like this CD.
In my opinion, this is the best effort to date from BT. The music is definitely electronic, but at the same time, has soul and feeling to it. There aren't too many artists that can evoke emotion from a machine, but BT has shown in this CD that electronic music can be warm and soulful too!
Brian Transeau sure knows how to make a excellent Trance/techno Cd!
