Many people, even Amos' devout fanbase, strongly dislike her album "Strange Little Girls". The record, which is comprised of songs written by men but re-interpreted through the voices of female characters Amos has invented, is high concept to say the least. Many say the concept sprung out of Amos' dissatisfaction with her record label - they were not promoting her and she didnt want to hand over any new material, so she did a covers record instead. The result is uneven on many fronts, but if taken as a group of individual stories that are not meant to connect in any fashion, this is okay. The styles range from punk rock to trance-hop to experemental orchestral/spoken-word. Among the artists covered are Tom Waits, The Boomtown Rats and even Eminem, whose "'97 Bonnie and Clyde" becomes a haunting, chilling account of a woman's murder, seemingly by her own ghost. Where the album soars - such as on the title track, an excellent pop-rock ditty that doesn't stray so far from it's origins - it equally bombs, like on the electronica-infused, droning "Raining Blood", which gives me a headache every time I don't hit the "forward" button fast enough to skip past it. "Strange Little Girls" marked a change for Amos in that she decided to go outside the box - waaaaay outside it - and see what happened, and the results are impressive, if not always pleasing to the ear.Read full review
I've been a huge Tori Amos fan since the early 1990's. I've always enjoyed just about everything that she's ever done...until now. The first time I listened to this album, I didn't like it. Some songs I was ready to skip immediately without ever having heard them before. I gave it another listen, skipped one song in particular (track 2) that totally gave me the creeps, and then skipped another as I would rather have listened to nails on a chalk board. I seriously doubt I will listen to this album a third time. If this was the first time I had listened to her, I would think she was terrible. If anyone is interested in this album, it'll be posted for sale soon.
I know some kids like her - but to me she's kind of average. Album's not bad - just ok. Track listing 1. New Age 2. '97 Bonnie & Clyde 3. Strange Little Girl 4. Enjoy The Silence 5. I'm Not In Love 6. Rattlesnakes 7. Time 8. Heart Of Gold 9. I Don't Like Mondays 10. Happiness Is A Warm Gun 11. Raining Blood 12. Real Men

I bought this CD because i am a huge Tori fan and i'm trying to complete my collection. I have to say this is not my favorite CD she has put out but it is still good since it is Tori. She has a very soothing voice which i will always love. I dont know if i would suggest this cd to someone who is a first time tori listener but i am glad i bought it.
