I just watched Styx- Grand Illusion/Pieces of Eight Live w/ the albums played in their entirety. For true Styx fans who yearn for all the stuff they never play, this is phenomenal. Man in the Wilderness, Castle Walls, Lords of the Ring, Pieces of Eight, Aku Aku, and all the rest are played brilliantly here. The production is incredible and the sound is off the charts. It's 1978 again, but with digital sound and lights. All the guys are completely at the top of their game. The only downside is no fault of Styx... it's the crowds in most of the shots. These must be the lamest audiences I've ever seen. I'm jumping up off the couch in my living room and these people look like a herd of freakin' cows standing around. These are probably the people who are overheard to say, "geez, I hope they play that "ohh, mama" song!!" and have never heard anything off these albums that crappy corporate classic rock stations haven't played. What a waste of audience. A true gem is the HUGE video backdrop!!! Dazzling HiDef video just explodes off the huge screen that takes up the entire backdrop behind the stage. Come Sail Away and Aku Aku in particular are just brought to life. The entire concert ends very uniquely with... well, I won't give that away but it will make any true Styx fan just raise a lighter in the air and long for days gone by. There is a special feature that takes you backstage and shows what all goes into each Styx show and it boggles the mind. It's a little techhy but very interesting, showing all the different guitars and drum equipment used and all the people behind the scenes who are characters in themselves. The sound seperation is excellent. The music Tallent is fenominal. The acuracy to the albums is thumbs way up. I gave it a 4 star due to the over ego on stage performance became anoying. This is better experienced without video. The 5.1 surround sound is why it's one of the best concerts.
