This album is generating some controversy because SW is exploring more of a pop style . Don't expect the prog leanings of 'Raven', or the intense dark cloud of 'Hand Cannot Erase'. The title tune is a catchy, funky exercise, and others such as 'Same Asylum as Before' follow a more traditional rock path. Only 'Detonation' veers towards prog territory. Much of the album has the sound and feel of pre-Gavin Harrison Porcupine Tree: strains of Stupid Dream and In Absentia occasionally pop up. To The Bone does not break new ground, but it's an engaging enough album that I will return to off an on when I'm in the mood for Wilson Lite.

Steven Wilson's latest offering is very good although I enjoy Porcupine Tree a bit more. It's solid pop rock/ with occasional Prog tendencies. Maybe Steven was attempting to be the pop star he always wanted. My guess is this is just a passing phase one can hope it comes back to Porcupine Tree and he gets back to a more progressive sound. After several listens this is really better than what I initially wrote matter of fact it’s another brilliant piece of music from SW.

Not like their older music this CD is on the POP Rock side has about 5 decent tracks the other are OK. If you like Porcupine Tree then buy it otherwise stick with their older music.
