Everyone has their own tastes when it comes to noise/noise music. Most people I have come in contact with vote NO on either. It is true, it can be unnerving if you do not like it. Myself, I love finding patterns and rhythm where it is more open-ended and less defined than in most music. Don't get me wrong,, I love all types of music. I am open minded and receptive to "noise" where the majority of people seem to draw the line. Now there is "noise" and "noise music", Skullflower has done both in my opinion. This is a bit more open-ended than some of what they have done. It is harsh, unforgiving and will melt the paint off the walls. Bower has been involved with much aggressive sound and feedback. I LIKE IT! Some of his earlier output, like "3rd gate" and "carved into roses" have a kind of loose groove, accented by drums. This outing is more free form although I personally feel it still has a musicality to it. It might take you a few listens to hear it. Somewhere between pure noise and noise music is where this piece lies. When I first heard "carved into roses" I was overwhelmed with the sheer beauty. This is heavier handed. More like leaving you slack-jawed at the sheer devastation. Mr. Bower's output is inspiring. It makes me want to record and experiment. Perhaps one day I can be worthy to be somewhere close to his creative level. Personally, I feel a person has to have experienced pain at a life-altering level to see the beauty in this For twisted souls only, indeed!Read full review
