Having listened to Mike Oldfield's work since my teen years, for some reason I overlooked Tubular Bells II. Maybe it was the cover that put me off, as it's a long way from the classic cover of the original Tubular Bells and too garish for his music in my mind. However, having listened to it many times, I am very glad that I bought it. The cover aside (which I still don'the like), the music has some great moments and Sentinel, the first part rightly earns all it's appreciative comments from people. The whole album is, in essence, a reworking of the structure of Tubular Bells and even features a voice of dearly departed Alan Rickman announcing the instruments. The original Tubular Bells was an inspiration and this feels partly like a re-imagining of the music while introducing new ideas and playing more with the texture of the sound. If you love the original Tubular Bells and want more, you need this too. If like me you have the original and Tubular Bells III, this album is the bridge between the two, numerically, musically and sonically. It's a must have for any Mike Oldfield fan.Read full review

A modernized version of the original and as such has, in my opinion, lost it's purity and impact. The original sparkling magical quality is blurred or disappeared. Still pleasant, though somewhat bland, easy listening in it's own right.

i had always loved tubular bells i was looking for other cd,s on ebay when i chanced on this 1.Stupid though it sounds i never knew that mike oldfield had made any different copies of the original tubular bells,i located a copy and ordered it straight away,the concept of the whole cd is the same but thats as far as it goes,all the music he has recorded is totaly different,he even fits in pipes and drums from various scottish regiments and its absolutely brilliant,if you like mike and like me pipes and drums then get this as it wont dissapoint.some of the melodies are so good they get stuck in your thoughts and you find yourself humming or whistling them without realising.
Cd was perfect., not a scratch on it. Service was A1, as always.
