Umphrey's is like a well oiled machine---Just add Audience and they come to life. There are no weak points to this 2 disc concert and even the acoustic start of Kitchen is powerful. They "are" a jam band & as such alot of people discount their talent/songwriting. They're amazingly talented & love to have a good time on stage--it's literally where they shine. If you tried to count the chord & timing changes you'd be lost on the first 2 tracks. Not to worry, it all blends like a pina colada on a hot summer day. Since they improvise (or more to the point, have the talent to) constantly you really never know where they're going next but rest assured THEY DO. To sum it up you really need to see them live to truly appreciate them. In the meantime this is about as close as you can get. If you're unfamiliar to their music it may throw you at first--they're long songs. If you have an ear, an open mind & recognize talent they WILL grow on you.Read full review
From the opening notes of "In the Kitchen" to the final bass driven industrial dance trance of Padgett's Profile, Umphrey's McGee once again shows their versatility while nailing every twist and turn this live album has to offer. It doesn't get much better when discussing live albums as so many genres are explored while seemingly not even noticing as they draw it back in the tightness developed and now put on display only the way Umphrey's McGee can. In the live setting, Umphrey's sits atop the improv. world. One listen and you'll see what I'm talkin' about. Let your ears decide :)
Old library copy, but I didn't care. Great music.
