This was one of those seminal moments in rock when a double album appeared. Something unheard of at the time, it astounded listeners and was often played on the radio - usually John Peel or some of the pirate stations in Europe. This was jazz and blues developing a "rock" edge and the start of the 15-20 minute album track! Equally as good is the Colosseum Live album which really brought home the essence of the band. When you get to my age (54) you see the influences on todays bands by the people you listened to as a teenager. Although prog rock in the 70's descended into complete pomposity, at the earlier stages it was completely new and exciting as bands broke away from the 3 minute single/track and explored all sorts of musical avenues. This was one of the first albums I bought and has remained a constant source of enjoyment. The Valentyne Suite itself is a classic piece of music ( I wonder if Jon Hiseman is still alive!??) and should be compulsory listening for today's musicians. A classic of the future! Go on....listen to it!Read full review
