I bought this album to add to my "blasts from the past" collection. Trouble with stuff I liked in the 70s is that they don't always sound as good now. However, overall, I was pleased I bought this CD. Osibisa's sound was unique at the time and I think still pretty unique now. There's a few really big hits on there that I'm sure a lot of people will say "is that them then"?, and a few that I'd totally forgotten about. "Sunshine Day" was massive for them and you still get to hear it occasionally on the radio now for instance (and in a few bars I'm sure). A great fusion of funk, jazz and soul blended with an infectious African beat, this band were fabulous to listen and dance to - check 'em out
Always wanted something by this iconic 70s afro-supergroup, and this is a good collection. I'd forgotten many of these were by Osibisa - including the Coffee Song. The bits that sound most dated are the indulgent 70s solos. The bits that stand up best are the more traditonal african influences. Still a remarkable fusion sound, even after all this time, however you look at it.
