When talking about an artist whose career spans nearly four decades, it's hard to fit the "very best" on just one disc. But for all of Todd's catalog, this collection does have the hits you'd expect, from "Hello It's Me" and "I Saw The Light," to "Can We Still Be Friends," "Love Is The Answer" (a beautiful song that appeared on Todd's work with his band Utopia, which was covered a year later by England Dan and John Ford Coley) and the sports arena anthem, "Bang The Drum All Day." Todd Rundgren is not just a talented musician - playing all instruments and singing all vocals on many of his albums - but he's also a celebrated songwriter, producer, engineer, video pioneer (His award-winning "Time Heals" video was the sixth video ever played on MTV). Todd produced many of Rock 'n' Roll's best, from Hall & Oates to Meat Loaf, Grand Funk to XTC, and Patti Smith to the New York Dolls. Some of his best work is behind the controls. If you're looking for a collection of Todd Rundgren's hits and not much more, The Very Best of Todd Rundgren is a perfect fit. If you're looking to better explore Todd's contribution to music, perhaps one of the two-disc sets like "Go Ahead, Ignore Me" or the Rhino "Anthology (1968-1985)" will give you a better look at what Todd Rundgren has had to offer all these years.Read full review
I had forgotten just how fun it could be to warp back to the Rundgren 70's! Some of these songs are so accessible and simple that you are amazed that they still have you tapping your foot. As a steady diet you might tire of the "lighter" work of Rundgren, but for sheer simple, possibly guilty pleasure, it is still fun to be reminded of the fun and approachable tunes that Todd Rundgren wrote. They do hearken back to perhaps a simpler less complex time but it is nice to be reminded of your youth! If Rundgren is considered a cultist musical phenomenon, then we need more of them with his eclectic tastes and yet ability to write AND release music that is commercially successful and still challenge the top 40 scene and its desire for only the pop stuff! It pays to be reminded that Rundgren definitely marches to his own drum and this sampling is of his more "popish" side. Well worth the listen!Read full review
Classics, but I never liked "BOTD" because Todd is far more creatively and asthetically capable. He's admitted it is his "cash cow" and also incredibly recognizable. His best works are not always popular. It is a nice starter package for a new fan.A few more volumes are needed to showcase all of his talent. There's Always More.🌟

"The Very Best of Todd Rundgren" may be the best collection of the Prolific Pop Star of the '70s & '80s. It covers the artist with pop hits like "We Gotta get You A Woman" and "Hello It's Me" to the more love songs "Love Is The Answer" and " Love In Action" to his crowd pleasing novelty hit "Bang The Drum All Day" to the Soul hit with Bobby Womack "The Want Of A Nail. It's a great collection of diverse pop hits (& then some) from Todd Rundgren.
It's Todd Rundgren...need I say more
