I bought this album after reading some very positive reviews about it online. The music on this disc is pretty darn good. The band is tight and the guitarist has a nice clean tone, but plays with aggression and nice thick sound. Here's the problem: the lyrics. Not the vocals, the singer actually has a pretty cool voice. The Lyrics. They're bad. Most of the time, they suffice and fit the moment. However, there were a couple of lines that just made me cringe. That bad. Anyway, if the music weren't as good as it is I wouldn't even have bothered reviewing this disc. It's just that some of those lyrics are so terrible, it ruins the whole album for me. Musically, I'd rate this about 3.75 out of 5. Not overwhelmingly good, but the guitarwork is pretty fresh and a little unique in spots. If Virus 7 could have consistently strong lyrics, they quite possibly could go somwhere. Not with this cheeZe, though.Read full review
VIRUS 7's Sick In The Head sounds alternative metal with simple guitar riffs, radio rocking vocals. This is quite a memorable and enjoyable listening experience. It's a catchy album with tunes that stuck in the head. The guitars are groove laden, chugging chords with an occasional solo and some modern sounding rhythms that help keep some songs fresh and interesting (Sick In The Head, You Better Believe, Last Chance). Drums are clearly heard throughout the album, but more so just along for the ride. The bass guitar plays a vital piece to most of these songs, as its thick overtone can be heard behind the scenes for the most part. This extra dose of heavy tone really helps the alternative metal atmosphere by adding an additional layer that is often absent from the genre. As for Edgar Paul Allen’s vocals they fit nicely with the music. This is an excellent album.Read full review
