Menotti's Amahl & the Night Visitors is a wonderful story to add to your treasured Christmas collection. The story is engaging and the message is touching, while the music enhances the whole experience. This is the only commercial DVD available of the production. I wish some major producer would make a new one. Also it is only in black & white, so the scenery is limited, without color. This recording however, is special because it is the original cast for television. So it has historic value. It is well done, while also leaving room for a new director's eyes and vision, to create a totally new production. This used to be produced every year at Christmas. I was five when this first production was done, and no production since has been better to my mind (or maybe to my memory). I was so happy to find this! I bought it for my mother for Christmas, and we watched it together. What a wonderful reliving of a happy memory. Just as good as I remembered!

If you grew up in the 1950’s you may have seen this on tv at Christmas. If that’s the case and you enjoyed it then, you will definitely enjoy it now. The remastered version was just like seeing it as I remember it. The quality of the pictures and the music were good. I highly recommend it!
