Nobody does weird like those venerable veterans of creep-rock, The Residents. In their fourth decade of freaking out listeners, they show no signs of slowing down, as VOICE OF MIDNIGHT upholds their oddball (or eyeball, if you will) tradition. The album is based on 19th century German writer E.T. A. Hoffmann's famous story "Der Sandmann," about a man haunted throughout his life by the mythical Sandman. Presented in a musical theater format, with guest "actors" providing much of the vocal narrative, the album combines the story's classic themes with The Residents' own unique brand of disturbing sonic dementia.

The Sandman
Holy Cow! The Residents are probably my favorite band but I didn't expect this CD to be as good as it is. Keeping the trend of storytelling going The Voice Of Midnight is a fantastic concept album based on Hoffman's Der Sandman. Musically it is everything from Tweedles to The Mark Of The Mole to Demons Dance Alone. The Residents never stop amazing me. 5 GIANT Stars!!!
