It's difficult yet easy to describe White Manna. Oxymoron-time. Yes, they're pretty much a heavy psych band with all the right ingredients to get any stoner's head nodding: layers of loud guitars, repetition, gravely vocals and swathed in fuzz and reverb. But it doesn't end there. There's as much a snarling punk ethos surrounding White Manna as there is a HUGE nod towards the tripped-out Hawkwind camp they greatly admire. Fast riffs combined with long, drawn-out droney riffs are the order of the day on this album. They're letting off steam and nothing is gonna get in their way of that. It's very different from their last offering 'Come Down Safari' which was a slightly more sedate (albeit hypnotic) affair yet it isn't quite as visceral as their self titled debut (imo). That said, Pan finds White Manna on top form, yet again and when played LOUD is an amazing slice of thundering, sonic beauty which lifts the spirits and guaranteed to give the neighbours a treat. Feed your head. Just buy it.Read full review
