Let me qualify this by saying that I am a huge Who fan. Always have been, always will be. That said, there is really only one reason to buy this CD - two new songs: "Real Good Looking Boy" - a great but typical Pete Townshend song - and "Old Red Wine". Both songs fit oddly well on a Greatest Hits type collection, sounding every bit like The Who at their best. These songs could easily have been a part of Face Dances, or Who's Next, or nearly any other Who CD. Sadly, it's a new line-up on these tunes, featuring Zak Starkey on drums, Greg Lake on Bass for "Real Good Looking Boy" and Pino Paladino on "Old Red Wine." (Better help couldn't be found? ;) The boys sound great, though nothing earth shattering here. A great stroll down memory lane, though, that will get you digging out Odds'n'Sods...heck, digging out the whole collection...to show the kids and grandkids what REAL rock and roll sounded like!Read full review
The Who have put out a lot of different greatest hits cd's over the past couple decades but none of them hold a candle to the "Then and Now! 1964-2004" set. This is simply 40 of their best songs (actually they have way more than 40 great songs in my opinion) that span a remarkable 4 decades. The Who is one of those rock bands that started and then helped to form the musical "British Invasion" of the USA, and all of these years later you will still here musicians from all genres, walks of life, and musical talent give The Who credit as one of the top rock n roll influences of all time. This is a great way to start if you don't already own any of the bands material. This is also a great cd to own for those of us who do own most or all of their original material and simply want a well made, collection of hits that this band has churned out over the years in one easy listening spot.Read full review
Recommended for a v good compilation of most of Who's greatest hits. I think some of the earlier recordings weren't that great recorded quality even on CD (AAD), after the fifth track it's noticeable how clearer the studio recording's got. I only gave one less star 4 of 5 because of this, but I'm a little picky. If you just want one CD for covering the Who def. buy this one!
It is hard to believe that almost fifty years has gone bye since the start of The British Music Invasion. This CD compiles forty years of timeless music, and memories, classic rock. This music is as alive today as ever and just turn on any radio in any big city and this music will be there - for many more years.
