Without question, it's Charlie Sexton best solo album. Lot of people will be surprised by hearing this material, if they know his previous works, such as his teenage-period albums, which were more pop, than rock. His previous albums, Pictures for Pleasure (1985), and the self-titled, Charlie Sexton (1989) were very different from this album, Under the Wishing Tree, which was released in 1995. Though you could hear he had genius guitar work even as a teenager, but his depth and ars poetica is more in this 1995 album. Charlie did a great band, the ARC Angels in 1991, which released a self-titled album in 1992. That album is classic for any texas rock/blues listener, a "have to buy it" piece. Some songs in that album were originally written for his solo album, which was delayed until 1995. The Sextet went into another worlds with these lyrics and tunes. They materialized such depth in rock, that their work put this highly underrated album on any blues/rock fans list. Some sites list this album in the jazz category, because it was hard to categorize the album for lot people. The Sextet album has a very unique orchestration, or let's say, harmonization than the other, average rock albums. But it's also sure that it's not the crazy, hard-to-understand psychedelic rock album. You can hear violin, Hammond B-3, accordion, mandolin, moog, besides the standard guitar, drums and bass line-up. The lyrics are very deep, poetic. If you listen to the whole album, you go through a wide journey, and also hear some very sensitive lines. You almost feel like going through these stories with the performer. I could only recommend this album to any music lover. And also, I really suggest Charlie Sexton's 2005 album, Cruel and Gentle Things which is again a sensitive, unique piece by this texan guitar legend.Read full review
Been a Charlie Sexton fan for years. Since I 1st heard his first album, yes album. He’s been touring with Dylan forever, but I wish he put out something new that rocked like his early stuff. Great in the car LOUD!🎸

This CD is not for everyone. I love it, I have dug Charlie since the early 90's. He definately has talent. If in doubt, give it a try. You never know, you might be surprised.
I was unexpectedly surprised at this album. I will use it for background music at dinner parties, or when relaxing is in the cards. . .
