This is one of the first Pink Floyd albums I ever heard. I got a copy on cassette about 15 or 20 years ago. This is a good album to get introduced to the band, but it also leaves out much, so don't expect to hear everything Pink Floyd has to offer here. I had to dock one star because of the songs Arnold Layne and See Emily play. These are great early songs, released during the Syd Barrett era, but on this album, the songs have been processed with some echo effect and the sound quality is greatly degraded. If you want to hear these songs in their original form, check out Relics.
With the vast array of music that Pink Floyd has produced over the years, it is virtually impossible to compile a greatest hits or best of collection. Their music defies such an act. While some of their earlier material may not be as strong from beginning-to-end as the Dark Side through The Wall releases, they have some rock solid efforts. "Works" contains some great songs and that is all it is - a collection of songs that you can listen to. Pink Floyd is best appreciated when a complete album is heard in its entirety.
When I played this cd, the title really explained the cd.
