"Yesterday And Today" is a great representation of where the Beatles were at, musically, around 1966. It had been decided earlier that year that the Beatles would stop touring, and instead, concentrate on making great music in the studio. Trying to play their music in front of thousands of screaming fans, armed with less-than-adequate sound equipment, had proven futile, The band was writing lots of great songs, and with the help of producer George Martin, they had become masters of the recording studio. George Martin was perhaps the best producer, and recording engineer, that England had ever spawned, and he is often credited with giving The Beatles their magnificent sound. "Yesterday And Today" was the Capitol Records release, and was actually a compilation of songs from the British EMI albums, "Revolver" and "Rubber Soul", both big selling classics. The album also featured two songs, "Day Tripper" and the Roy song, "Act Naturally", not found on any other Beatles record, but released as a single. "Yesterday And Today was first issued in 1966 with a cover depicting the four Beatles dressed as butchers in bloody aprons, and holding baby dolls and clutching bloody cooking knives. Soon after the albums release, the cover, known as, "the dead babies cover" was found to be in bad taste, and quickly banned by the record company, causing original copies to command prices of upwards of $500 ! The playfully gory cover was replaced by a much more "sanitary" cover, showing the Beatles, looking very droll, while posing in, and around, an old clothing trunk. The album contains some of the band's best known hit songs, such as "Drive My Car", 'Nowhere Man", "We Can Work It Out", George Harrison's "If I Needed Someone", and Paul's hugely successful, "Yesterday". I emphatically recommend this classic Beatles album, whether on vinyl, or CD. ( Incidently, the CD that I purchased was issued in a digipak, made to look like a miniature version of the original "camping trunk" album. It does not come with a plastic jewel case.)Read full review

A 'label was provided to cover the gross original cover. Thought I was ordering the revision cover. The album was mostly a compilation of other albums with a couple of other songs. Good if you don't have the other albums.

I love The Beatles Yesterday and Today, the Butcher Cover. It plays every song in mono and then in stereo. I love it!

All the songs are among the beatles best. The only negative is the disgusting cover with raw meat and baby heads-but they give you a self adhesive replacement of a more civilized Beatles picture you can put on it if you want to-which I certainly did!
