This certainly is not the best Maniacs album but it is a solid effort and Natalie's vocals are as beautiful as ever. The lyrics are still fantastic and the music doesn't lack too much...I just wish they would have kept more of their early quirkiness in the songs. Without Natalie's voice and some stand out lyrics this one ran the risk of being boring. Thankfully, Natalie saves the day.
Natalie Merchant really rocks in this CD. It contains a wide variety of music with thought-provocing lyrics. It includes both 'pop' type material and music for the serious enthusist!
From the first time I've heard "Eat For Two", I've been drawn to it; what musically is relatively upbeat is lyrically the bittersweet (possibly without the sweet) rumination of a young woman regarding an unplanned pregnancy. "Trouble Me", the only actual mainstream single from this album, is a pleasantry. The remainder of the album is not unexpected from the Maniacs: sounds which vary but are never harsh; words often with a message of some sort.
I like to Buy C.D.'s on e-bay because Most titles that I want are so hard to find in stores now and with everyone downloading music now It seems music stores are closing left and right, so im very happy to buy some hard to find titles on e-bay and now I buy MOST of my C.D.'s on e-bay and i prefer that instead of searching for a title at a music store.
This band has strong lyrics and something important to say! This album is a must have for any Maniac's Fan and I highly recommend it!
