Alice In Chains slightly missed it on this album. Out of the 5 Total, this is my least favorite. I have no problem with Duvall's singing at all, so it has nothing to do with him. This album in general just didn't strike anything in me. I'm a 30 year AiC fan-following them since the beginning. Met Mike Starr & Layne Staley at a party in late 87'. Then, I thought of them as a typical "garage band". However, after I saw them play at the Renton's musicians hall, I was hooked. I bought ever single, demo, album, I own probably the largest magazine collection and have an extensive music collection too. I've been able to obtain some pretty cool rare gig posters (especially from Hawaii 1/8/93), and proudly hang it framed on my walls. Along with several Marty Temme signed photos. I say all of this because I am one of the biggest AiC fans still in Seattle (born & raised) and within a second I know if the song playing is an Alice one. They've created their own sound, unmatched by any others. Although many bands have tried, there's only one band that has kept my interest and love for 30 years now-it's Alice In Chains. Because of this band, I became a music reporter and now promote local Seattle music too. I felt that Hollow, Choke & Voices were their biggest hits on TDPDH. Jerry Cantrell is an amazing song writer and developed a sound that only a truly empowered, yet desperate person could-and that's how they became the greatest rock band in the world.Read full review

Classic awesome sounding Alice In Chains minus Staley which to be honest with you, I like even more because Cantrel sounds like Alice anyway. Still getting use to the other songs on it as the majority are easy going songs but the first track Hollow is UNBELIEVABLE, second track is kind of repeat tune over and over like some boring A&C songs but 3rd track Stoned is a close second but you'll LOVE the tenth track Phatom Limb. The whole album should be more like Hollow and Phantom! Track 5, the devil put dinosaurs here is a good one too but the top three I just pointed out. Voices is a bit boring on track 4 so as Lab Monkey which is just like a drum track. Boring. Low ceiling isn't worth mention on track 7. Break on a Window track 8 is a bit typical old alice but has no pizzazz. Track 9 Scalpel is a bit slow and jar of flies like acoustic. I nice slow down mix but I buy alice for the hard slow melodic bad ass crunch guitar like, slowly shake your head kind of feel to it that under the influence of a few beers you're like, ''Yeh, this song is the stuff!" Track 10 is the bomb man. So awesome! Just as good as track 1 hollow and stone. These songs really hit the mark. They have that certain something that really just blows you away when you listen to them. You'll be skipping tracks over and over to back between while you learn to like the rest of the album. Now as to the last track, they couldn't have picked a better word for it. Choke! They definitely choked on that one. Song falls way short of Alice quality and song longevity. You'll be jumping over it to go back to the 1st track Hollow again. Over all, 7 songs are good on the 12 song album. 3 are unbelievable! The rest are just filler. So you can get use to the 5 other boring ones and hopefully like them eventually but it's like Jerry Cantrel's solo stuff and recent A&C, sometimes he hits you with one really hard awesome song but then makes you wonder why he'd put in some boring filler stuff. Otherwise, it's a pretty good album. It's DEF worth the buy for those three songs I mentioned. Hollow, Stone and Phantom will keep you track switching in the car for hours while driving.Read full review
I am a very picky person when it comes to music. This album has the best songs in it. This is a cd that you can listen to over and over again. Jerry Cantrell's voice is amazing and the way he plays guitar omg you just can't get it out of your head. I am very impressed with the music on this album. I love the song stone and this song is why I bought the album. On the song voices they end the song with the beginning tune so you can't help but play the song again. I have to say I honestly haven't liked an album this much for several years. It's nice to have a cd that you can put in and play the whole thing with out skipping songs. Jerry's voice just draws me in and I have to say I can't get enough. This is such a good album and I am very happy with my purchase. I know that when this cd gets scratched up I'll be purchasing another one.Read full review
