Pretty solid metal album. Was very impressed with their previous studio effort 'Death...The Brutal Way' as it had taken me quite aback. This one is just not quite as catchy, and I realize the "catchy" is a subjective term. This album seems like it had the same goal, I certainly assume it did, and has the same effort, superlative effort I might add, and the same effect: neck-breaking, head-banging, loud-as-heck Deathdoom. Good stuff, just not quite in line with the last album but still much better than average at least to my leathery ears. I've no doubt fans of the band will like this a great deal. And, it's gotten very good reviews from my metallic peers as well. I'm actually looking forward getting the live release ('Live Death Doom') that fits in between these two studio albums. What I did like about it: 90 to 95% of it. Extremely well-done Death &/or Doom (I have trouble with what genre is what these days although I certainly know what I like) metal. What I was not too happy with is the trebely production values. A change from the last album and a bit off-putting: this coming from a production nerd so take it with a grain or two of salt. What I was surprised I didn't like too much: The Celtic Frost cover. Big fan of the band (CF) from a loooong time ago but 'Os Abysmi Vel Daath' has not yet impressed me at all. Where I stand now: a fan of Asphyx, still, and searching for more of their music.Read full review
