While Brick By Brick is probably the closest thing Iggy has ever done to mainstream rock or pop sound, this still remains quintessentially Iggy Pop. There're ballads & toe-tapping rockers here. A damn good album, but I still kind of prefer his older stuff - New Values, Soldier or work with The Stooges for example. So, stacked against other Iggy albums, I'd go 4 or 4.5, but on it's own merit, I'd give this between 4.5 amd 5... One thing I've always liked is that he's never overdoing it with the vocals, his stuff is awfully close to storytelling in style, and the language is simple and natural sounding. And only Iggy could get away with some of the sounds he makes in his sounds - example: his Butt-butt-butt... in "Butt Town" almost sounds like a chicken clucking. Anybody else would be ridiculous, but this... this is IGGY. And Iggy makes it cool. A cool thing with this album is the guests included, but this seems to be a normal thing for the ever-morphing Iggy Pop line-up. The constant... I don't know, there is a similarity in the skeletal structure of many of his songs, but each of his albums get fleshed out differently. The constant is the familiarity of his voice, which may not necessarily be for everybody. For anyone not familiar with Iggy Pop, this may be one of the most accessible albums you could jump onto. Yes, despite the fact that you can hear those other infectious Iggy / Stooges songs selling everything from cars to cruise lines these days, these not so widely played gems are pretty easy to latch on to.Read full review
Another hit and miss album by Iggy. I do enjoy the songs that sound like Bowie but the rest I could live without. There is a very strong sense of unevenness here that keeps me from listening to it often. Part of me wants to give this 2 stars but there is a part of me hoping that this will grow on me someday. 3 Stars it is.
The song "Candy" also sung with Kate Pierson of the B-52s, is the reason I bought this. I also liked the fact Slash and Duff fron Guns N Roses and also John Hiatt are on this CD as well, something I did not know until I bought it, which is an added bonus.
This one is more for the mellow head.I can sum this up as an album with two hits,...."Neon Forest/Pussie Power",...other than that ,the array seems confusing to me ,not exactly wishy~washy ,but definitely in need of some Viagra ! A lil' bit out of focus for me ....
Nice Cover by Charles Burns. I haven't listened to the music, just wanted the cover. If you need some great Iggy, check out "Fun House" by The Stooges.
