This CD is great. First, I was a little skeptical when Carrie Underwood's CD came out in what seemed like record time after her American Idol win. However it is proving to be a fantastic CD. The song Jesus Take the Wheel, makes me turn the radio up and sing every time but then so does Don't Forget to Remember Me and the Next Time He Cheats. Jesus Take the Wheel isn't so much a religious song as it is a stop and take stock of what it is going on in our life song. Don't Forget to Remember Me brings me back to when I first left home. Of course my situation was different but the bills were mine and I know I told my family I was fine even when I was eating peanut butter and bread sandwiches for every meal. The song I Ain't in Checotah Anymore lets us see a side of Carrie that may not come out in other songs. It is also a play on word for We're not in Kansas Anymore. It is cute and catchy. My final pick for this album was The Next Time He Cheats. Wow! That is a powerful song with lots of irony. It is also a complete turn around from some of her other songs. It just gives her more dimension. First, she is young, sweet, and sexy and then she shows that she has some backbone too! This album is a total product. The voice is there, the range is there, and the song choices are just ...'sweet'!Read full review
I admit that Carrie's CD is the first one of the American Idols that I have purchased, even though I have watched that show every year. I love this CD, and play it often. She does have a very clear, melodious sound to her voice, and she can hit just about any note given to her. I think that my favorite song is the one called Before he cheats.. It is a really FUN track. My mouth just fell open when I listened to it the first time. It has been a long time since I listened to music with a country flair, and this girl has definitely got that going on! However, the other tracks are just as nice. Some of them can bring a girl to tears.. Jesus, Take the Wheel, Don't forget to remember me, whenever you remember, I can't live a lie.. all of those songs are definitely songs to pull the emotion out and make a listener think.. I cannot say enough good things about Carrie Underwood.. :) She isn't in Checotah anymore, true enough.. Checotah's loss is American's gain!Read full review
Do I live on another planet than the other reviewers? I can't believe all the hype about Carrie Underwood. She has looks and a good voice, but so what? So do hundreds of other singers. She isn't a stand-out at all in my opinion, much less a star, and many of her songs remind me of ones my grandmother would listen to. Many of the songs, like the singer, try much too hard to be catchy and commercial. She asks listeners to believe she's "been there" and felt life kick her in the gut. But give me a break -- she's a kid who hasn't a clue about what it really feels like to have a broken heart, to be living a life that turned out much sadder than she planned ... she just hasn't lived enough life enough to be believable. There's no soul, no depth to her singing. I can't believe she's taken seriously. Do listeners really believe she is on the same caliber as Martina McBride, Leanne Womack, Trisha Yearwood or the great Dolly Parton? If she's still around in 5 years, I'll be shocked. She's been "made" into who she is -- she just isn't authentic.Read full review
I got this cd for my wife. I am not a fan of country music as a whole. That having been said, I can appreciate good music from any genre. The big hit Jesus Take the Wheel is a good song. I even thought about getting shivers down my spine. But as far as I can see, thats about the only meritorious one on the album. The rest is filled with cliches and lackluster melody or content (see: 'Starts with Goodbye'). Not to even broach the subjct of juvenile chord progressions and arrangement. The formula is this- create a simple song for a good singer to go buck on. Last comment, does it seem inappropriate to anyone else to put "Jesus Take the Wheel" on the same album with s song about drunken love-gone-wrong valdalism and revenge? Maybe its just me......Girls, go for it, guys-your girlfriend will love it.Read full review
?Some Hearts?. First let me say that I have been buying music for a good 35 years now. I have bought many Albums? that had 1 or 2 good songs on it that I liked. Thank you for creating Itunes. I?ve love buying Greatest hits CD because it?s a collection of all the best songs of several albums. When I heard Some Hearts for the 1st time I thought to myself, man I?ve not found a song on here that I don?t enjoy. This reminds me of a Greatest hits CD from an artist that?s been around the block a few times. This CD is laid out very nicely. It?s a beautiful mixture of Country music that naturally crossover to other charts. The CD flows beautifully from start to finish. Each song tells a story that I can relate to an experience in my life. The golden egg on here is Carries Voice!, WOW does it really shine. She has an amazing recording voice. She can take an average song and make it sound really beautiful. In all honesty, this is by far the best Debut CD I?ve ever bought from a new artist in my entire life. Carries voice is simply amazing! WOW 5 Stars!Read full review
