I've loved this album for decades, i lost my cd copy a while back, so it was good to have back in my collection. A definitive peak from a great band. I'd forgotten the good melodies the album offered, and colourful lyrics. 'Rene' is a fave,as too is Lazy Sunday, but to be honest the whole album is fabulous, and the Stanley Unwin bits are hilarious.

If you've never heard The Small Faces, which is highly unlikely, this is not a bad place to start. Some would say this was their swansong album. It is light hearted, soulful, slightly protracted with a 'concept' storyline but very well written and produced. Steve Marriott's vocals are near their best and the Marriott/Lane writing team have never been better. I bought the original vinyl recording the day it came out and have always enjoyed revisiting this piece of pop gold. Stand out tracks: Rene, Afterglow, Happy days toytown and of course Lazy Sunday. Take a punt, you won't be sorry.

from the universally known lazy sunday, to the risque rene (a real dockers delight!) the first half played in reverse order is an absolute pleasure. then you get to the real gem. a story told in stanley unwin's own completely inimitable gibberish about a simpleton (or a man who has taken far too much acid as a kid) who can't work out the phases of the moon and has to hook up with a (equally f**ked up) tramp via a long ride on a huge fly. it makes SOME sense after about the 15th time you listen to it. but not much. all time some time deep joy of the full moon scintilladen dangly in the heavenly bode. but now only half. A REAL CRACKER THAT EVERYONE SHOULD HEAR SOMETIME. there is history as well! type stanley unwin into your search engine type thingy it was all feathery feathery and be surprised by what you find. this man is a class act. please enjoy, as i have, and i hope your turn out is three quarters half as lovely won't you wouldn't half enjoy it. stay cool won't you.Read full review
Ogden's Nut Gone Flake is the Small Faces' 'Sgt. Pepper' Many groups used the idea of Sgt. Pepper as a similar project, during 1967-69. This is such a great album in as much it was very 'Hippy' Music. The Cover was made like an old tobacco tin and unfolded into 6 pieces. It was also round, another innovative idea. They used the nonsense language of Stanley Unwin to link the story together, with the great sound of the Small faces. Superb sounds of the time. Thanks for looking, Frank
