It's been said that the power of music is it's ability to put the listener into the mental state of the composer. I think that is true of all art regarding the state of mind of the artist when in the act of creating. So much of the music out there these days just takes up space and time while somehow just by it's existance lessening the power of what real music does come out. Coheed and Cambria however embody the entire concept of artistic expression through music so much so that this band singlehandedly elevates music as a whole back up to where it was before powered guitars, overwhelming speaker audio onslaught and tight packed auditoriums. Back to a time when we couldn't help but be picked up and carried along with it. Back to the days of great composers and cascading accoustics. When the artist wasn't writing a hit or a song to be played to death on some radio station. The music was the artist way of showing us what was dear to them, in their heart and soul. Telling us in a way that words don't express, actually allowing us to feel what they felt when they wrote it. There was no radio, the listeners only heard/felt it because they choose to. They choose to venture somewhere to experience the music along with others who also wanted to hear and feel what the artist was willing to share. The artists feelings were private and incredibly signifigant to them. They shared them only because people begged for it. They wouldn't have wanted just anyone turning on the radio to hear it. They should have to appriciate it and listen to it with everything within them. Coheed&Cambria's music is no different. It speaks from the soul, and if you aren't going to let it fill and overtake you then turn around and go watch your tv. This album is a perfect complement to their music because it fits it so perfectly. Claudio uses his voice to complete the story, the painting that the music creates. Having a string to play the melody that his voice creats on their albums is like putting it under a spotlight. His voice IS the final instrument. The words themselves aren't what's importand, it's how they shape the music. On this album with no lyrics, you can hear the music those words shape. It will change how you listen to Coheed's albums from the point you first hear it. Coheed and Cambria are the first GROUP ever to rightfully stand with the great artists of this planet. They stand alone in this day and age. You'd have to listen to the great composers of yesterday to find music this good. They are peers who stand along side Mozart, Bach, and the greatest of all: Ludvig Von Beethoven. Listen to this music with everything you have. There will never be another artist with this much deapth in our lifetimes, nor a better band ever.Read full review
I am a big fan of Coheed and Cambria & furthermore absolutely love their second release "In Keeping Secrets Silent Earth:3". I feel this is an incredible, epic, refreshingly creative and masterfully executed album. It's certainly one of my favorite records ever. I am a professional musician in my mid 30's and know more about music trivia than most people on the planet. This will give you an idea that I have discriminating tastes and am not going with the flavor of the week (which typically is weak). If you already love this album then you will very much appreciate the "string quartet" arrangement of 'In Keeping Secrets Silent Earth:3'. I totally dig it. The String Quartet's version of this album is pretty impressive, different perspective of something already amazing. They do the entire record (with the exception of the bonus track "2113") with 3 violins, a viola, a cello, & a contrabass in the original album order even going as far as starting off with the "telephone ringing" and the footsteps just before "The Ring in Return". Massive attention to detail was taken when arranging the parts and it's quite a technically impressive execution. Coheed & Cambria are technically superior musicians and some of their stuff is quite difficult to play especially at the quick tempo in which they play. The Quartet's arrangements do not let you down as all of Co & Ca's masterful riffs are there and Claudio's awesome melodies are tastefully represented with the voice of the viola. Be more of a well-rounded music enthusiast and get this record... you'll be doing yourself a favor.Read full review
I got this album because I am a huge Coheed and Cambria fan. When I first listened to them, I thought they were awful, but my husband convinced me to take a second listen. They grew on me and I learned to love them. Now they are one of my favorite bands ever. They make great music and have very intense lyrics. I had heard some of the Vitamin String Quartet's covers of some songs/bands and I thought they were very good and very talented. I picked up this album and I have to say I was blown away. I never thought Coheed and Cambria's music could be taken to a whole new level. The String Quartet's renditions are spot on and incredibly beautiful. If I had never listened to Coheed and Cambria before, I would think that the songs on this album were original compositions or classical music. I highly recommend this album to any Coheed and Cambria fan or any fan of string music. You will not be disappointed. A+Read full review
