I read a review of this band that stated it was like AC/DC, my favorite of all-time. So, I looked them up on youtube and listened to a couple songs. While I wouldn't say that's accurate (the AC/DC reference), I would say that a Danko has his own style that is quite unique. I have listened to this album a number of times (all the way through) since I bought it, and I really do like the entire album. So, if you just want to try for a good, hard rock album (some songs have more of a punk feel) that's different than most, I'd give this one a shot. I like to listen to it in the car when I'm driving.
Mix 2 parts Thin Lizzy, 1 part each of raw energy and their own unique musical talent/sound, dashes of AC/DC, KISS, NY Dolls and you get Danko Jones. These boys are a lot of fun. They know how to rip it up old school but with a clean and vivid new sound. I get the feeling they are in it for both the good times and artistic expression -- not to preach politics or take themselves too seriously. In a world of genero-fake wussy rock, Danko rises above. Each song often completely differs from the last (hee hee whats gonna happen next?)Mainstream rock outlets wouldn't know what to do with these guys. Phil Lynott would be very, very proud, fellas. Keep up the good work! Sleep is the Enemy is an excellent CD as well.
The only thing that I do not like is the Screaming Metal in a few songs, but that is only my personal opinion, many people do love that. Love their music!!
Danko Jones at their absolute best. This album was voted on their fansite as the band's best ever album. Loud, raucous, and a definite must have. It kinda sounds like the bastard child of AC/DC and Andrew WK came up to you and kicked you right in the balls. You Must Get This Album
