If you like Deep Purple and thought they were incapable of playing bad, don't listen to this record. It's a sad testament to one of the best liveact ever- period. Deep Purple had a power and raw-energy that no other band could match back in those days, not today either if you ask me. On this live recording though you can clearly hear that the band has come to an end. Hughes is high as a kite and sing like a sick rooster, Coverdale tries to be the lead singer but is being overrunned by Glenn. Tommy Bolin is also high on something and thinks he plays like a god, it sounds terrible. Jon Lord is totally uninspired and Paice does his worst drumming to date, he even drops his sticks!
This 2 CD set is 11 songs with the deep purple lineup of : Ian Paice- Drums, Jon Lord- Keyboards, David Coverdale- Vocals, Glen Hughes-Bass, Vocals, Tommy Bolin-Guitar, vocals. After the release of Come taste the band in early 1975 Deep Purple toured and this is a recording of the final night in Tokyo, Japan. The cd is better than the original release of 1977 made in Europe! This release is the entire concert and live with Tommy Bolin giving a great live solo! The band is playing good but I don't think it was as tight and the former line-up. Blackmore exiting made the band play with more energy and even today Deep Purple with Steve Norse is an excellent live concert. This set is well worth the money and if you like Tommy Bolin buy it!
