1990 was a good year for Buffalo NY's death metal band Cannibal Corpse. After they recorded their demo in 1989, Metal blade records offered them a recording deal. The album itself, although well within the death metal genre still has a very prominent old school thrash metal feel to it. Chris Barnes' vocals are somewhat raspier and more thrash oriented than on later records, but is still killer. By the time this record was released, Cannibal had mastered the gore aspect of death metal. The best tracks are "Shredded Humans", the most metal song about a car crash I've ever heard, "Born in a Casket", "A Skull Full of Maggots", and I love the thrash opening to "Scattered Remains, Splattered Brains". The production quality is great for the year it was made in, but the records get better and better audio quality as they progress.Read full review
